FAQ

When it comes to cloth diapering, parents usually have some questions. Here are some answers to our frequently asked questions ♡

What is the health benefit of cloth diapering?

The environmental concern stemming from disposable diapers is real, as we all now understand. Regardless of environmental perspectives, the benefits of diapers are numerous, particularly for health. Disposable diapers contain various questionable substances that have no place near sensitive little bodies. These substances are transmitted to the child from moisture-absorbing beads that collect urine and are located beneath the lining of disposable diapers. When the beads become saturated with urine, the mixture of urine and chemicals is squeezed out of the beads when the child sits on their bottom and rises to the surface of the diaper. It is then likely that the sensitive diaper area of our children, which provides a direct route into the body, is exposed to substances that can cause severe health problems in the long term or in the future, according to research.

I'm interested but I don't know where to start!

You don't need to know everything about diapers or own a complete collection to start. We recommend that you choose a diaper that you find beautiful, buy it, and try it out. It's really not more complicated than that, just dive in! While it's possible to gather knowledge, the best way to understand diapers is to try them out. We also suggest trying out different types of diapers, and eventually, you can transition to the diaper system that suits you best.

Is there a difference between diapers for day and night?

Technically, no. You can use nearly all diapers as night diapers, but you may need to add absorbency. When talking about absorbency, it refers to inserts, either made of hemp, bamboo, or cotton. This way, you turn a "day diaper" into a "night diaper". Children urinate different amounts during the night, and it completely depends on each child how much absorbency needs to be present. Our favorite nighttime "combo" is our Premium Cloudy AIO diaper with the double hemp and bamboo insert in the pocket.

How is the laundry and dirty diapers handled?

How is the laundry and dirty diapers handled?

  1. Cold rinse with a small amount of fragrance-free detergent or no detergent at all.
  2. Followed by a 60° long wash with fragrance-free detergent.
  3. Cold rinse without detergent to rinse all left over detergent from the diapers and inserts.
  4. Everything hung up to dry, inserts can go on the highest heat in the dryer.
My diapers are leaking, what can I do?

There can be many reasons for leaks. Assuming the diapers are in good condition and are from Noah Nappies or a similar brand, here is some advice:

1. Seek assistance in adjusting the diaper to the correct size. The diapers are "one-size," meaning they can fit both large and small children if the right setting is chosen. Sizes change as the snaps at the front are fastened together. Please send us a picture of the child in the diaper if you are unsure.

2. Choose the correct absorbency. Often, adding inserts or boosters is necessary. Many caregivers of cloth diapered children start experiencing leaks as the child grows, usually due to increased urine output, so the absorbency needs to be increased accordingly.

3. Avoid using zinc-based creams or inserts contaminated with zinc. Zinc is water-repellent, and if such substances have been applied to the diaper, its properties are compromised, and leaks may occur.

4. Try to monitor which part of the diaper fills up with urine the fastest. Is the diaper leaking even though part of it/insert is still dry? Boys tend to wet the front more, while girls often wet towards the middle or even the back if they sleep on their backs. We recommend breaking apart a 4-layer bamboo booster and placing it in the area where the child wets the most.

5. Arrange your inserts correctly! The bottom most insert should have the highest absorbency, which is hemp. The layers above should be materials that absorb liquid faster than hemp, such as bamboo or cotton.
